Congratulations to the 2026 Next Generation Psychiatrist Awards Winners!

The EPA Next Generation Psychiatrist Awards rewards exceptional early-career psychiatrists across 5 different categories.

Thank you to all applicants! The Jury has reviewed the applications and winners have been contacted.

Among the many excellent applications received, the international jury selected 5 exceptional early-career psychiatrists, each representing a distinct category. Each awardee will receive a prize of €2,000, a travel allowance, and an invitation to attend the 2026 EPA Congress, as well as additional congress-related benefits, in recognition of outstanding scientific profiles demonstrating excellence, innovation, and a strong commitment to the advancement of psychiatry.

This Award aims to support early career psychiatrists by offering them visibility, a financial reward and support to attend the EPA Congress in 2027.

The Next Generation Psychiatrist Awards winners (5 selected) will receive: €2,000 and a free registration to the 2027 EPA Congress.

Opening of the applications: Monday, 28 September 2026
Closing of the applications: Monday, 2 November 2026 

Final results to be communicated by the end of the year following the jury’s review.

Who is Eligible?

Early career psychiatrists (i.e., under 40 years old or within 5 years of completing specialist training) working in countries within the World Health Organisation (WHO) Europe region.

Selection Process:

Each candidate will provide the Selection Committee with three items:

  1. A short biosketch (maximum 2 pages) outlining academic degrees, current position, professional experience, research activities (participation and leadership roles), areas of interest, previous involvement in early-career associations, a list of publications from the last 5 years, a record of international and national congresses attendant in the last 5 years, and any visiting experience at different host institutions
  2. A short motivation essay (1 page) outlining the candidate’s background in one of the give categories described below and explaining how participation in the European Congress of Psychiatry has influenced their career development and professional growth.
  3. A reference letter signed by the candidate’s academic mentor.

Categories of Application:

1 winner must be selected per category.

  1. Clinical psychiatry
  2. Public mental health, social psychiatry and epidemiology
  3. Pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments
  4. Psychopathology
  5. Brain and mental health in the lifespan, including child and adolescent psychiatry and old age psychiatry
